Mastering Your Exterior with the Right Contractor

Insider Tips for Choosing an Exterior Contractor

Choosing the right contractor can make all the difference between a smooth, successful project and a nightmare filled with delays and sloppy workmanship. As a seasoned professional, we spoke with Panos Kyriakou, Production Manager for Remodeling Concepts. He has shared some of his invaluable tips on what to look for when hiring an exterior contractor.

Recommendations & Positive Reviews

Recommendations and positive reviews, like for any job, are very important. They are what speak the truth. Word of mouth is often the best way to find a reliable contractor. Ask friends, family, and neighbors for recommendations, and do not hesitate to request references from the contractors you are considering. Additionally, check online review sites to see what previous clients have to say about their experiences. Pay close attention to any recurring themes, both positive and negative.

Detailed Estimates

Once you have selected a few contractors that you are interested in working with, request a detailed estimate from all of them. At this point, a professional will come out to your home to assess the scope of work that you are looking for. It is crucial to tell the contractor all the details you are looking for and what your ballpark price range is. With this assessment and information, they will create a detailed estimate.

Ask Questions & Get Answers

Make sure to ask questions about the estimate and work scope to ensure that all the information is correct. You do not want to be charged for something that you do not necessarily need. Ask the contractor what each line of the detailed estimate means. If the contractor can not answer your questions, they are not the right person to hire. A seasoned contractor will know the answers to all your questions, no matter what.

Get Everything in Writing

Once you have selected an exterior contractor, make sure to get everything in writing. This includes the scope of work, project timeline, payment schedule, and any warranties or guarantees. Having a detailed contract in place will help protect both you and the contractor and ensure that everyone is on the same page. If anything needs to be changed, be sure to communicate with your contractor as adjustments can always be made. “Getting everything in writing for me is the most important thing you can do as a client but also as a company. It is very important to read and understand the contract. However, this does not only apply to exterior work but any project you may have. If everything is written down, you know exactly what the contractor is going to offer you and what you are going to pay for. This also avoids any misunderstandings between the two parties at any time of the project” mentioned Panos.

Hire an Exterior Contractor

Once you feel confident in your decision, hire the contractor. Panos said, “At Remodeling Concepts, we are THE professionals. We will respect your home, keep it clean, and make sure to uphold the standards and expectations driven by both you & Remodeling Concepts”. Hiring an exterior contractor does not have to be stressful. By following these simple steps, you can ensure that you will be hiring a professional contractor who will deliver excellent service.
