How to Prepare your Home for Winter

Jun 08, 2022

The air is getting cooler which means winter is just around the corner. Fall is the perfect time to make sure your house is well prepared for the colder elements. We compiled a list of the 3 ways you can prepare your home for the winter.

Closing Gaps:

One of the easiest ways to prevent heat from leaving your home and allowing cold air in, is to caulk around your homes doors and windows. Before winter is here, take a look around your windows and doors for any broken seals and gaps. With this simple fix, your home can protect you and your family from the cold winter winds.

Clean Gutters:

After a snow storm, have you ever looked in awe at the ice that has formed over night? While beautiful, these icicles can pose as a hazard once they start melting. To prevent this from happening, it is recommended to clean your gutters out before winter comes. To provide an extra layer of protection, we recommend installing a leaf guard.

Check Roof:

Just one missing shingle can cause damage to your roof. While you are preparing your home for winter, take a look at your roof to see if there is any damage. We do recommend contacting a roof inspector to get on your roof to make sure there isn’t any damage, especially if you have areas on your roof that are hard to see. Not only will this help prevent any leaks from the melting snow, this will let you know if your roof is strong enough to withstand any heavy snow.
