A Window of Opportunity

Jun 08, 2022

During this quarantine, we’ve had a lot of time to reflect on many aspects of our lives. Many of us have decided to spend our time remodeling our homes before our bosses call us back to work. But what if you don’t know where to start? There are many windows out there to choose from. We compiled the most popular window types to help you decide which windows would look best in your home.

Single Hung

The standard window for most homes and businesses due to the low cost in both material and labor. Only the bottom sash can be opened.

Double Hung

The top and bottom sashes can open. In some models both sashes can tilt in and out, providing an easier way to clean the windows. Allows the best airflow as the top sash can be open to remove hot air, while the bottom can be open to allow cool air in.

Not sure if you have a double hung or single hung window? Check outside! The top sash on double hung windows extends slightly to allow the window to be brought down.

Casement Windows

This window opens outwards instead of up like standard windows. These are perfect if you have a window that is located in an area that is hard to reach.

Awning

Similar to the casement windows, this window swings outwards but from the bottom. These windows are perfect if you live in a rainy area and would like to allow airflow without worrying about rain getting inside your home. Mostly seen in schools and businesses.

Sliding

Moves horizontally along a track. This is a perfect window if you have a nice view, and want to be able to open to allow air flow. Like casement windows, these windows are great in an area that is hard to reach.

Picture Windows

Picture windows are large windows that allow a clear view with no obstructions and let in the most natural light. Similar to sliding windows, these windows are perfect if you have a nice view, however, picture windows are not meant to be opened.

Awning

Bay windows are three windows that stick out from your home. A standard bay is one large window in the middle and two smaller windows on the sides. You can customize these windows to whichever fits your needs. You can have 3 double hung windows, two double hung on the side and one large picture window in the middle, and more!

Bow Windows

Similar to bay windows, these windows stick out from your home, however, bow windows have a curve shape and typically include four to six windows. Bow windows are unable to be open due to how close the windows are to each other.
